ECCO Biom Lite
The BIOM Lite epitomises a Cornish seaside village during the height of summer. Gracefully strolling along the coastline brimming with rich, intriguing colours emphasised by the suns illuminating beams as a soothing breeze whips around you. Wearing a shoe never felt so free. The BIOM Lite, ECCOs headline summer shoe, is a new introduction to the natural motion range. The title speaks volumes; a featherweight shoe in boxing terms, this shoe punches well above its weight. Once again an abundance of ECCO’s research has been dedicated into creating a quality shoe, this time to encourage and promote a barefoot

motion, a shoe that has no feel! The technology ECCO delivers once again opposes the typical features present in a conventional shoe and the corrupted modern day philosophy. Essentially the BIOM Lite retains the same natural motion principle as featured in other styles in the range yet with more of a casual and everyday look and use. This makes the shoe the most versatile of the whole BIOM range from my perspective when it comes to the spring/summer collection. I have frequently referred to the BIOM Lite during gym practise for light exercise sessions, yet could be seen in Oxford City Centre wearing them with some beige knee length shorts. Furthermore, despite the fact ECCO don’t manufacturer slippers; my feet are so unbelievably snug inside the BIOM lite’s soft suede uppers (or Key West leather) that there is no choice when deciding which ‘slippers’ to wear from my three pairs at home (two of which are genuine slippers). So how are they so flexible both literally and physically?
The BIOM Lite brings together key BIOM principles and the general casual nature of an everyday shoe which make it such a fundamental and flexible part of your shoe collection. As I previously mentioned, the suede is so soft enabling your foot to lean against its sides like hugging the sides of a small Cornish seaside village alleyway. The perforated uppers allow the foot to breathe in a similar fashion to the sea breeze catching your face on the fishing harbour. The vibrant colours of the BIOM range for women and men and the contrasting colour blocking of the sole reminds me of the diverse backdrop of multi-coloured coastal residences overlooking the glossy ocean. The sole is constructed from the same durable, lightweight and flexible polyurethane destined to enable your foot to have free movement and control at all times. Admittedly the BIOM lite has a different ‘natural motion’ feel as its thin sole is designed for more contact with the ground mainly when walking. Despite this it’s a testament to ECCO’s designers that it still maintains a high standard of arch support to encourage a correct walking style and assist those who pronate or have issues with collapsed arches.
The BIOM lite can be what shoe you want it to be; dress it up with funky contrasting laces and match it with some retro attire or be a little more conservative and stick with the browns for a more casual/formal event but there are colours for all genders, age groups and all occasions. I tend to find it has a broad fit too especially as the suede/leather is so soft and consequently the more you wear them the more the shoes will adjust to the shape of your feet. For those going away this summer, these are the last thing in your suitcase as after you have crammed everything in, the nature of the BIOM lite ensures it will easily adjusted into a small slot, weigh next to nothing at the airport and be able to be worn for every occasion whilst away! Well… That Cornish holiday…
